Full Redemption
The Lord is releasing an understanding of the fire. The fire speaks of a passion for the Word of God, but Scripture says that most Christians will be lost because they will defect from the truth (2 Thes. 2:3). We need to remember that the message of Jesus’ love is not just how He loves us, but also how we are to love Him. Jesus said, “Why do you say that you love me but don’t obey my commandments?” (John 14:15).
It seems like most believers lose their fire after they get saved. Do you remember how on fire you are when you first get saved? Then that fire goes out. This can be due to going back into a life of sin, or it can be religion and religious mindsets that kill that passion and desire for Jesus. Scripture tells us that the letter kills (2 Cor. 3:6), but the Lord expects us to stay on fire. We need to stay on fire, but how?
The Lord said through the prophet Jeremiah that His Word is like a fire. Rabbi DovBer, a Hasidic rabbi from the 18th-19th century, taught that the revealed Torah which instructs us on moral and holy living is likened to the water of the Word that washes us. The “inner,” or mystical, teachings of the Torah are known as the fire of God. The reason most people avoid the inner, mystical teachings of the Torah is because they are intimidated and they simply prefer to study subjects that are less threatening.
That may seem strange, especially for those who pray for the fire of God, but when Israel saw the fire of God on Mt. Sinai, they refused to go and asked Moses to go for them instead. They were scared and intimidated just like many Christians are today. We need to move from an academic study of Scripture to a personal, exhilarating and passionate relationship with God. This is why theologians can never understand the deep things of God because their focus is on the academics -they have no relationship with God and they shy away from the mysteries of the kingdom.
It’s simple to understand that the water of the Word washes us, but many times we go out and get dirty again. This speaks of the up and down walk in many believer’s lives. The ministry of fire is different in that it completely consumes everything in your life. It consumes the impurities, burns away all the vices and all the lust of the flesh. Once you go through the process of fire, you no longer need to keep washing yourself. This fire purifies the inner man, which is the soul.
The inner teaching of the Torah creates that passion and love for the truth. That is one of the biggest issues with Christians here at the end of the age - so many that call themselves Christians no longer having a love for the truth (2 Thes. 2:10). There’s no fire because there’s no inner teachings of the Torah. The prophet Zechariah said that only one third would go through the fire. That one third is the remnant that will be refined. Fire does one of two things: it consumes those who are like chaff, and it purifies those who are righteous.
The Word shows us that those who are destroyed by the fire of God are those who have rejected the law of God. In Malachi, before the great and terrible day of the Lord, we are told to remember the Law of Moses. This is not speaking about the letter of the law but the spirit of the law. The early church taught that Moses understood both the letter and the spirit, but that Israel was not worthy to receive the spirit of the law because they rejected it. The Torah is not a list of rules, it’s a guide to walk in the light and to become like Jesus.
We need to learn to stay in that fire, to be able to stay in that constant fellowship with God. If you learn to stay in that fire, you’ll be in a place to hear from God. Saints, this consuming fire is final preparation for the last move of God.
Sincerely,
Apostle Michael Petro
