Rule Mashal

We were just part of the “Reawakening Tour” in Anaheim, where we met quite a few people, including Mike Lindell, whom we interviewed. So many of the prophetic voices there were saying how close we are to the last move and that the remnant is being chosen. We really just need to wake up and believe it. This is a time to walk in holiness and righteousness. The Lord simply isn’t going to listen to us or do anything for us if we’re not walking in that place of holiness.

Mashal, which is Hebrew for the word comparison or parable, is an important concept to understand in order to understand the structure of the Scripture. The reason we study the early church is because they were the ones who were instructed directly by the apostles - they understood mashal. But Jesus said there would be a great falling away at the end of the age, which speaks of a defection from the truth (2 Thes. 2:3).

Scripture says that the worlds were framed by the word. The “Word” in Aramaic points to the memra, which speaks of the voice of God. When the “Word,” or the memra, is used in the Old Testament, the early church believed and taught that it was Jesus as YHVH. In fact, every time God is going to intervene on the earth it’s manifested by the memra. It is His Word that has the ability to manifest His divine nature and what He wants to do on the earth.

The memra was known as the Word that wrestled with Jacob, the Word that spoke to Adam, the Word that created the world, and the Word that spoke to Moses. Now the Father is trying to put the memra in you. As you press in, the Lord will begin to transform you back into His nature. When you have a desire to change that means you love Him back. We can say we love God, but our obedience reveals if we truly do or not. Jesus said, “Why do you say you love me and don’t obey my commandments?” Jesus also said that many shall come to Him in that day saying, “Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and cast out demons in your name?” and Jesus will reply, “Away from me you workers of iniquity” (Matthew 722-23). These were people who thought they loved the Lord.

There has to be an engrafting of the memra in us just as there was in the apostles and the early church. In the same way the Jews missed the Messiah because they did not understand the parabolic teachings, the church today can miss the second coming because of their lack of understanding. How can so many people sit in church on Sunday and not know who He is, or understand what He’s about to do? It’s the cares of this world and worldly desires that are holding so many back.

We have to learn to rule over our desires and cares of the world. The Hebrew Word “Mashal” speaks of having power to reign and dominion through an understanding of the parables. That is how we become rules over our thoughts and desires. The Lord is looking for souls that are willing to dig out the deep waters of the well, souls that represent wisdom. When our soul is a servant to God, we will say "Lord, it is Your will that I desire to fulfill."

Those that are willing to pay the price and be diligent in the Word will be given the memra. Your soul, through your desires, will try to control you. You have to be in that place where you just want to fulfill what God has for you. We have to be a slave to Christ. When God shows you His agape love, you will never love anyone or anything else more than Him. Nothing else will matter. You will leave everyone and everything for Him.

Every second of everyday God is testing you to see what you’ll do. Every church will tell you what you want to hear. God is bringing a church that will tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. You will never achieve anything in the kingdom by just sitting back. The Lord is calling every one of us, but who will be obedient to the call?

Sincerely,

Apostle Michael Petro

  1. This is an amazing blog. Thank you.

Jewish belief taught that the memrah was one who was so righteous that he had become the embodiment of the word itself. He was the word made flesh.

The Jewish Encyclopaedia says in Vol. VIII, pages 464-465, 1904 edition,

MEMRA (= “Ma’amar” or “Dibbur,” “Logos”): “The Word,” in the sense of the creative or directive word of speech of God manifesting His power in the world of matter or mind; a term used especially in the Targum as a substitute for “the Lord” when an anthropomorphic expression is to be avoided….
“The Memra,” instead of “the Lord,” is “the consuming fire” (Targum Deuteronomy ix. 3, comp. Targum Isaiah xxx. 27). The Memra “plagued the people” (Targum Yerushalmi to Exodus xxxii. 35.)

“Not His “hand,” but His “Memra has laid the foundation of the earth” (Targum Isiah. xlviii. 13)…
Like the Shekinah (comp. Targum Numbers xxiii. 21), the Memrah is accordingly the manifestation of God. “The Memra brings Israel nigh unto God and sits on His throne receiving the prayers of Israel” (Targum Yerushalmi to Deuteronomy iv. 7)….
As in ruling over the destiny of man the Memra is the agent of God (Targum Yerushalmi to Numbers xxvii. 16), so also is it in the creation of the earth (Isaiah xlv. 12), and in the execution of justice (Targum Yerushalmi to Numbers xxxiii. 4). So, in the future, shall the Memra be the comforter (Targum Isaiah lxvi. 13): “My Shekinah I shall put among you, My Memra shall be unto you for a redeeming deity, and you shall be unto My Name a holy people” (Targum Yerushalmi to Leviticus xxii. 12). “My Memra shall be unto you like a good plowman who takes off the yoke from the shoulder of the oxen.”

The Jewish Encyclopaedia also notes that the idea of the Memra was expressed by the early Christians by the Greek term, Logos. We read further on page 465,

“In the ancient Church liturgy, adopted from the Synagogue, it is especially interesting to notice how often the term “Logos,” in the sense of “the Word by which God made the world, or made His Law or Himself known to man,” was changed into “Christ” (see “Apostolic Constitutions,” vii. 25-26, 34-38, et al.). Possibly on account of the Christian dogma, rabbinic theology, outside of Targum literature, made little use of the term “Memra.”
